they first flew in twilight
with wings folded clumsily
and some in albatross, ostrich and loon
and the crafters beside her were hungry like spiders for her end
she dirtied the sky
with things that could barely fly
and even took pride in it
the cutters dance that this crafter danced
was too improvised
her footsteps her fingers not one with her scissors
when paper crane crafters perfected their slice
then nary a cut
til the paper was earth, and each fold a mountain and in the cutters eyes the presence the
essence the movement
of that cutters god
On high
as the masters left slowly
behind they left the Nasruddin
the sky is a plague that is yours to continue
and ours to abandon
our care now grows nothing
our harvests turn empty
the lone cutter left now feels she must shift focus and do so to fix
the dirty webbed bloody twine that blankets the sky
when the cranes were loosed
they snipped away the barriers and bared forth the clouds
and the rains of autumn and spring
so long did she live in the wrong cutters dance
now to pivot to the right step
lost in the knowledge she now must learn
with no one but herself
to glean
snip away
snip away
the more little traces of brightness are shown
to beaks that grow sharper
and wings that grow more respectful

(Eli)zabeth Owens’ Knock Knock is an incredible album. It is the conceptual continuation of their album Coming of Age (which you should also listen to), and Knock Knock is both an excellent continuation and a wonderful new album. The vocals, instrumentals, and lyrics are all excellent, and every song fits together wonderfully. Absolutely worth listening to.
Thank you for releasing this wonderful album. Kamani
